IZABELLA ROMERO RAINEY
Refugee Hope Upstate
Refugee Hope Upstate is a faith-based nonprofit organization serving legally resettled refugees in Pickens and Oconee counties as they adjust to life in the United States. My volunteer work with them focuses on supporting refugee families through both educational and community-based initiatives. I provide childcare for parents enrolled in Adult ESL classes, allowing them to fully engage in language learning while knowing their children are in a safe and supportive environment. In addition, I serve as a mentor for Words of Hope, the organization’s children’s ESL program, where I help foster language development, confidence, and cultural adjustment through structured activities and individualized support. Through these roles, I have gained meaningful experience working with diverse communities while contributing to a welcoming space that promotes dignity, inclusion, and long-term self-sufficiency.

Spanish Professionals Society
I was an active member of the Spanish Professionals Society, a social and academic organization for students interested in Spanish, career exploration, and professional development. Through SPS, I attended networking events, participated in group discussions, and engaged in conversations focused on career paths, study abroad experiences, and the professional use of Spanish. The organization provided opportunities to connect with peers and mentors, strengthen my professional communication skills in Spanish, and build a supportive community centered on cultural exchange and career growth.

Alpha Phi Sorority
As a member of the Iota Rho chapter of Alpha Phi Fraternity at Clemson University, I contributed to an organization dedicated to advancing the lives of its members and women worldwide. I supported fundraising initiatives focused on women’s heart health and scholarships, assisted with event planning and campus engagement, and participated in the recruitment and onboarding of new members. Through this involvement, I developed leadership, collaboration, and organizational skills while building strong connections and contributing to meaningful service and advocacy efforts within the campus community.

Clemson Hope Mentors
Clemson Hope is an education-focused nonprofit dedicated to empowering students and teachers in Title I schools near Clemson, South Carolina through relationships, resources, and opportunities. As a Clemson Hope Spanish student mentor, I worked directly with elementary students through one-on-one and small-group mentoring, collaborating with teachers to design activities tailored to each student’s academic and language needs. Through homework support, tutoring, and relationship-based engagement, I helped foster language confidence, cultural exchange, and meaningful connections within a supportive classroom environment.
